LOCATION
Pedinon (Pedino) is on the Mani Peninsula of the Peloponnese in Southern Greece. The airport of Kalamata gives easy access to our village home and flights are available from early Spring until late Autumn from a number of UK and European airports. You can also travel all year round to visit and stay at our house by flying to Athens and then by bus and/or taxi for the remainder of the journey. The village of Pedinon (Pedino) is small and has mostly old traditional stone houses. It is an idyllic and peaceful retreat in beautiful surroundings with one of the most, if not the most, spectacular views in Greece from Mulberry House. Whilst the village is located in the foothills of the Taygetos Mountains, the pretty coastal villages, bays and coves are easily accessible.
MULBERRY HOUSE AT PEDINON IN THE MANI SOUTHERN PELOPONNESE GREECE Mulberry House was originally built in 1813 and has been restored by the present owners.
The main entrance door leads in to the upper floor, a spacious open plan room. To the front, with sea and mountain views, is the sitting room area, well furnished with chairs, a sofa bed, occasional tables and a bureau/bookcase containing a variety of books and games.
French doors open on to the verandah, which surrounds the front and side of the house, at first floor level. From here are spectacular views from the side to the mountains and from the front across the Gulf of Messinia to Koroni on the opposite coast.
A breakfast bar separates the sitting room from the kitchen area, which has a refrigerator, small oven, a four ring electric hob, a double sink unit and fitted units containing ample supplies of china, crockery, cooking utensils and cutlery. There is an electric cooling fan situated over the breakfast bar table.
Also on this floor is a cloakroom with wc, hand wash basin and shower.
A spiral staircase leads to the ground floor main bedroom which has a double bed, fitted cupboards and drawers and an additional clothes hanging rail. Mosquito nets are provided, also an iron and ironing board. Bed linen and towels are supplied. French doors lead out at the front to one of the terraces. Adjacent to the main bedroom is a ‘feature’ bathroom which has been created from the original arched kamara where the animals were sheltered before the house was restored. It is fully tiled and has a sunken bath with shower over, wc, hand wash basin and a washing machine.
A further door leads in to the second bedroom which also has a door leading to the terrace.
The surroundings of the house are mainly paved and terraced on several levels, with garden areas, a fig tree, mulberry trees and a productive grape vine which gives shade over part of the verandah. At the rear of the house is a storage room for garden furniture, sun loungers and parasols, etc.
